AJ asked: I am trying to find this book that I read when I was a kid to give to my son, who is into the same stuff. I can’t remember title or author. I do remember the story. This story may have been one of multiple stories within one book. We read it in class and it was considered classic well known science fiction. Story: A scientist is on a remote island. His supply contact is his banker on the mainland. The scientist invents a revolutionary cold medicine that cures the banker’s cold, an eating program that eliminates the need for sleep, and most important these little creatures that he becomes “god” off. The banker becomes greedy and tries to take over the island. The scientest had ordered the creatures to put an impenetrable shield over themselves. Planes come to bomb the island. At the last minute, the creatures remove their shield and the scientist can order them to put the shield over the island, thus saving him and the creatures forever from others. Help?
