Missing Mom by Joyce Carol Oats - great book that I currently can't put down
The Thursday Next Series by Jasper Fforde - I'm guessing you'd like this even better than I did if you've read a lot of the classics
Anything by Leon Uris - all historical fiction
Sherlock Holmes books by contemporary authors such as Laurie King and Caleb Carr

you NEED to read twilight for a good fun read! its a sappy love story that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but there is also adventure and suspence.

for a more classical selection i would reccomend:
kiss of a spider women
memoirs of a dutiful daughter
madame bovary

Anything by James Michener
Anything by Edward Rutherford
Anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs

Michener writes about the history of places and the people who lived it. ie:The Source, Texas, Hawaii,Poland,Centennial,The Covenant, Chesapeake, Mexico, The Caribbean, are just some of his novels, they are all very good.
Rutherford writes the same kind of book, his include, London,Sarum, and Russka.
Preston and Child write adventure/detective/sci-fi novels-they are very good, and a little scary.
I think that if you are a reader, any of these would be very good.
Michener and Rutherford would also give you an education.

If you want a good laugh - while at the same time being held in suspense - try the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Her books are wittingly clever and keep me highly entertained. I'd recommend them to anyone - especially those who appreciate originality in the overly used murder mystery genre.

It begins with "One for the Money."

Happy reading.
