PostHeaderIcon great books to read?

classic science fiction
three boys asked:

Has anyone read any great book this summer ? I do not like Science fiction at all. I guess that I could try old classics, but I am not from here so I sometimes have a hard time reading those. I like reading books that tell someone’s life, not like biograghy, but something like Joy luck club type. But anything would vbe great. Thank you.
I am reading the curious incident of the dog in night time right now.
It is good. It has been interesting to see how things are to a person with Autisum

I do not know your age group. If you are an adult some that I have loved in the past are The Thorn Birds&The Shell Seekers. Mostly I love mysteries. I just bought 15 today at a used book store then I bring them back & get new ones, If I’m not on the computer,or not knitting or crocheting,I’m reading.Since I am much older, I can’t tell you what kids are reading unless it has to do with Hannah Montana.

I loved the Candide by Voltaire.
It is about a young man who encounters ridiculous hardships. Everything that can go bad does. It is a parody and a satire. I just loved it. It is not too long and is a light read.

I also loved A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. He received a lot of bad press because he said it was real and it turns out that it isn’t or parts of it isn’t. I don’t know. All I know is it is an amazing book about one mans struggles with addiction. It is sad but powerful and I recommend it to anyone. It was heartbreaking and at the same time fulfilling.

(I tired not to answer with fantasy books. Since most people did)

“The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver is brilliant and unusual, telling the story from the perspective of different members of a family.

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” is funny and interesting – the narrator is a 15 year old autistic boy.

    The Three Faces of Eve
    O. Henry’s short stories
Books by Dave Berry or Erma Bombeck
