"The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver is brilliant and unusual, telling the story from the perspective of different members of a family.

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" is funny and interesting - the narrator is a 15 year old autistic boy.

I loved the Candide by Voltaire.
It is about a young man who encounters ridiculous hardships. Everything that can go bad does. It is a parody and a satire. I just loved it. It is not too long and is a light read.

I also loved A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. He received a lot of bad press because he said it was real and it turns out that it isn't or parts of it isn't. I don't know. All I know is it is an amazing book about one mans struggles with addiction. It is sad but powerful and I recommend it to anyone. It was heartbreaking and at the same time fulfilling.

(I tired not to answer with fantasy books. Since most people did)

I do not know your age group. If you are an adult some that I have loved in the past are The Thorn Birds&The Shell Seekers. Mostly I love mysteries. I just bought 15 today at a used book store then I bring them back & get new ones, If I'm not on the computer,or not knitting or crocheting,I'm reading.Since I am much older, I can't tell you what kids are reading unless it has to do with Hannah Montana.
