Recommend a good book? (Or just tell me your favorites!)?

classic science fiction
makeitcount asked:

Hi, I’m in search of a good book to read and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

I like anything from science fiction to romance..classics to more modern stuff. Some of my favorites are Wuthering Heights, Angels and Demons, 1984, The Kite Runner and Harry Potter. Ideally I’m looking for stuff that is not TOO “teen-y” (though I will admit I read the Twilight series and loved it lol).

I really appreciate any suggestions. Or even just telling me some of your favorite books would be great. :)

    “Little, Big” by John Crowley is a great epic fantasy novel.

    “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank should be read by everyone at least once.

    hello. I am an ‘oldie’ compared to you, when I went thru High School, I graduated toward ’soft’ science fiction. That being said, I read some Andre Norton, more fantasy than science fiction. Later I’ve read and enjoyed books by CJCherryH, ‘Finitys End’ bieng one of those. Enjoy, the world is ‘always’ out there! Even when we don’t read the same literature, the effort of reading is very worhwhile! enjoy : }

    I’m rereading A.E. Van Vogt’s Null-A novels, “Worlds of Null-A”, “Pawns of Null-A”, and “Null-A Three”. “Pawns of Null-A” was the first sci-fi novel I ever read (at age 12), and was hooked. It introduced me to sci-fi, and I’ve been a fan of Van Vogt and the Nul-A books ever since.

    First off, second vote for Sedaris’ work and “Life of Pi”, amazing stuff.

    Then to add to the list, “A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving, “The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley (she writes tons of sci-fi, a long series called Darkover, I haven’t read them, but I love her writing so I am sure they are good), and anything by Barbara Kingsolver, especially “The Poisonwood Bible”)

    The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory

    Here goes:

    Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a “Reader’s Choice” list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

    Also these: . Lots of lists, but I especially like the Harvard Classics list - all the books that I should have read, but (mostly) never did.

    Finally, these: - pick your genre, find the best books ranked by how many awards they’ve won.

    I hope this helps.
