Trying to remember title to a (classic?) science fiction book?

classic science fiction
Srewsna Oohay asked:

I think the story was about a guy going back in time to a medieval town when he realizes that the town is going to be attacked fairly soon by the mongols and he tries to help the town get ready for it using what he knows from the present. Any ideas of the title would be appreciated.

A Knight in King Arthur’s COurt? I believe it is a juvinal book that Disney even made a movie of. I don’t know if I have the title right. I don’t remember an adult book with that plot but I could be wrong. There was an episode of the T.V. show MacGyver using that plot as well.

sounds like a Connecticut Yankee in king Arthur’s court? i don’t remember the exact plot, its been along time since i read it. i believe its by mark twain.

You could be thinking of L. Sprague DeCamp’s “Lest Darkness Falls”.

Lest Darkness Fall is Roman, no mongols.

Conneticut Yankee isn’t even close, although it is the first of this sub-sub-genre.

Could it be one of H.Beam Piper’s Paratime stories, one of Poul Anderson’s TIme Patrol stories, or part of Fritz Leiber’s Big Time series? I don’t recognize the specific facts, so that leaves it at dozens of possibilities.

Be apathetic, give up the search, and just read Piper’s Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen, which I consider to be the best of this style novel.
