Richard

I'm a fan of anything that's thoughtful, socially critical in one way or another, and creepy.

Joe Haldeman is a good example- he's the man. As long as the story is not space opera, or just laser fights or time travel blunders, I think you will do ok.

Clifford

S Space Opera. I don't like tiny settings. Give me huge ships, vasts starscapes, larger than life characters, and huge plots, and I'll be happy with any sci-fi story that has all that. A space opera is big. It normally involves ships, huge settings, different planets, different species of aliens... basically think Star Trek or Star Wars, those are pretty much space operas.....

A good theme would help too.

Marc

I wouldn't call myself much of a "fan" of sci-fi simply because I haven't read a lot of it, but I'm a huuuge fan of Tad Williams' Otherland series. It's 4 books about people who investigate why children are getting trapped in a high-realism virtual reality world where anything is possible.. it's really really good.
