The cult classic movie I am looking for is science fiction, and time travel movie. I need the name of the movie so I can purchase it and or order it.

It doesn’t have to be faithful to the original - suppose Klaatu gets shot, he dies & doesn’t get around to saying “Gort! Deglet ovrosco” - with todays highly sophisticated special effects, I think it would be very interesting to see what they could do; and a sequel could be very interesting and alot more challenging - keeping to the original’s framework. Say Gort came back - mankind had been given a warning - did we heed that warning etc.?
Has anyone got any influence out there with the big money directors like Jerry Bruckheimer, Joel Schumacher people like that etc., or maybe it would better suit the likes of David Twohy, who produced the highly original film The Arrival and Pitch Black one of the most innovative science fiction film makers I’ve ever seen -
- or perhaps the crème de la crème of science fiction himself - Mr. James Cameron - well he is in my humble opinion anyway - what do you think people - a good idea?
If you do think it’s a good idea - is there anyone out there with influence with one if not all these big directors or another famous director - preferably not Speilberg, as lately, I think he’s lost the plot - I mean look at the complete hash of things he made with his version of War of the Worlds - mind you, to be honest the original, which one an Oscar for its Special Effects was a tough act to follow even today! Apart from him, if any one has any influence and you like my idea - please can you say if you can and/or will influence a ‘big money director’ to resurrect Gort - AGAIN please?
I am resubmitting this question for two reasons:-
1. quite rightly, as The Can sailor (whatever that means) pointed out the film is called THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and not as I stated WHEN THE EARTH STOOD STILL.
It’s one of my most favourite film - getting that wrong is nothingSCI FI sacrilege -ery embarrassing - I deserve to be shot with a phaser “set to full”!
2. To question this remake I’ve found out about from FRIGHTFILMFAN who I awarded Best Answer to in my original question (or will - I haven’t done it yet - I’m going to to award him him after I’ve finished this Added Details bit - does that constitute a ‘causality loop’ paradox in the space time continum’ - maybe?
I doubt it though!
Anyway back to the point or rather my second point I think it was - yes it was.
Keanu Reeve as Klaatu - come on Mr. Scott Derrickson, you need to rethink that one. It’s not that I don’t like Keanu Reeves, he’s done some good work, but doesn’t the role of Klaatu deserve an older actor, someone more authoritarian more statesman like?
To be fair I’ve just looked at a clip of his film The Exorcism of Emily Rose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L6z1RySRY0&NR=1 it looks like he knows his craft!

Over the last decade there seems to have been an endless supply of formulaic horror/thrillers such as the Saw films but the classic space movie seems to have all but disappeared.
We’ve had rotten tomato like AvP and Solaris (2002) but where has the quality production and script writing of the 1980’s and 90’s gone?
Notable exceptions include Sunshine and Serenity but why don’t we see well made epics like Aliens, Close Encounters and 2001 A Space Odyssey anymore?
Discuss!…

I love episode 4 the best just because it’s such a classic story and had such great characters and sound effects. It brought me into the Star Wars universe and made me believe in science fiction and has altered my life….
Plus I love me a good Darth Vader lightsaber fight!
