I have writer’s block, and I need help choosing a setting?
I know that I want there to be a love story. There should be some conflict at some point, either they don’t like each other at first, or one isn’t interested at first, or something happens to separate them for a time, or one of them is in danger… But romance doesn’t have to be the main genre. What happens with them has to be part of a larger interesting plot.
I don’t even know where/when I want the setting to be! I don’t feel like I can do something contemporary because I never really read contemporary novels. I usually stick to classics. I don’t think I know enough to set the story in the past or the distant future, although the future seems more likely because it would require less research. I thought of doing something science fiction, but I don’t know how to create my own universe like in Star Trek/Wars.
I feel like if I knew what the setting would be, I could create a character, and maybe a story would come out of that. But how do I figure out what setting to use?

What are the best 5 books of the last 20 years, which people will continue reading for the next century ?
I’ve seen lots of lists, but none of them is very specific for the “classics” of the last 10-20 years.
People continue reading Don Quixote, The Prince, The Divine Comedy or The Odyssey, after hundreds of years.
Will people continue reading your favourite books during the next century (or Millennium)?.
Any topic (Literature, Business, Science, History, Philosophy, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Children’s, Self-Help, . . . . . .).
Thank you very much for your answers.

Star Wars.rate all the movies 1 through 6 and give your reason why you rated your #1 pick the highest?
My ratings go like this:
1) Episode 4 – A New Hope
2) Episdoe 5 – Empire Strikes Back
3) Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith
4) Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi
5) Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace
6) Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones
I love episode 4 the best just because it’s such a classic story and had such great characters and sound effects. It brought me into the Star Wars universe and made me believe in science fiction and has altered my life….
Plus I love me a good Darth Vader lightsaber fight!

Can anyone tell me why terrible science fiction is selling nowadays?
Considering the recent success of ERAGON and HARRY POTTER from bookshelves and movie theaters, does anyone else believe that the stories lack the substance many well-developed classics have come to be known by? Can anyone else tell me why characters and plotlines are so predictable and one-dimensional? *For those who are fan-boys and fan-girls, look away and do not answer. I will simply not regard your angry replies with interest, because it has been established that ERAGON and HARRY POTTER are both commercial fiction and hold no literary value, as far as depth is concerned.*

Why do you think that there is prejudice against fantasy and science fiction in literary circles?
I believe these forms are higly creative ( although they can also be highly copied so is regular fiction ). I can site many works that are equal or superior to mainstream fiction or classics. For instance you would be hard pressed to find a work more with the depth and breadth of Lord of the Rings in mainstream genres.
Your thoughts on this.

Please recommend me some books?
Anything but science fiction/fantasy, please. Preferably less well-known classics or older pieces of literature that were never considered classics, like I’ve been reading some Christopher Morley lately, it’s quite good and makes for light reading. I’m really looking for adventure, historcial, romance, and maybe some light reading.
