Dr who and Red Dwarf are my favourites out of this list. When I was young I also used to really like a series called Lost In Space.

To be honest, most of the current popular sci fi shows are too derivative for my taste. For example, if one more Star Trek spin-off is aired I’m going to puke. Another example is Star Gate; it was a good movie, but two new television programs? That’s stretching a good thing a bit too far.

Another problem I see, is that a lot of the program’s humor falls short of the mark. But I guess that’s to be expected if they’re aiming it at tech wonks primarily interested in elevating comedic ineptitude to an art form.

Despite the fact that I’ve just crucified modern tv sci fi, I have to admit that there are several new shows that have caught my eye, but more for their human interest than any science fiction value.

The Dresden Files is one, though some may consider it more of a fantasy series than science fiction and Kyle Xy, a show that explores two of my favorite subjects: teen angst and teen confusion.

My all-time favorite show, however, is one that you may not be familiar with. It was the show that started it all, Science Fiction Theater (1955.

Maybe it’s because it was the first of its kind, but no other show has captured my interest quite like that one. Of course I was only ten years old and rather impressionable at the time, but I still remember it more fondly than any other.

In fact, I don’t think that there’s anything being aired today that can compare to any original show in whatever genre because the orignals were the shows that created the genres. It’s sort of like the wheel, which many intelligent people say took greater genius than any other human invention because it was the first and had nothing to base a vision on.

I think the sad truth is, for the most part, people today don’t seem to realize how boringly unimaginative they’ve become.

Perhaps its because most of us have spent our lives being brainwashed into accepting cliches through mind-sapping advertising, but the spark that generates true creativity is missing.

But I’ve digressed too far, so allow me to return to the subject and give you my list of (more than 3) favorite sci-fi shows:

Roswell, Max Headroom, The Invaders, Alien Nation, The Prisoner, Science Fiction Theater, The Dresden Files, Kyle XY, The Outer Limits, and the original Star Trek.

There they are and I hope I’ve given you something to ponder, since pondering is my favorite passtime and probably why I complain too much. Obviously, the mad geniuses of Madison Avenue consider me one of their biggest failures.
